Juventus incredibly gave away two points in stoppages to lose the Serie A leadership!
Following Inter's defeat at Sampdoria on Saturday, Ciro Ferrara's men had the chance to break away at the top of the table. They lost their perfect record in Thursday night's 2-2 at Genoa, but were expected to sweep Bologna aside. Diego and Alessandro Del Piero were fit again, though Fabio Cannavaro, Tiago Mendes and Momo Sissoko remained sidelined.
Bologna last won in Turin back in October 1980, managing just four draws from the next 15 attempts. The visitors missed Massimo Mutarelli and Davide Bombardini, but could count on former Juventus strikers Marco Di Vaio and Marcelo Zalayeta.
The visitors were wearing their green away strip and Juventus had a strong start, as David Trezeguet sprung the offside trap and smashed an angled drive across the face of goal, stinging Viviano's gloves. From the corner, a Nicola Legrottaglie header whistled wide.
Trezeguet also hit the side-netting (and a photographer's camera) when Mauro Camoranesi combined with Jonathan Zebina, but it was only a warm-up.
Zebina skipped past two defenders down the right flank and his cross ricocheted up off Viviano, a perfect chance for Trez to poach from six yards.
Viviano rushed off his line to close down Diego, but Andrea Raggi was left unmarked to volley a corner over. Di Vaio wanted a penalty for a Christian Molinaro nudge from behind, while at the other end Raggi was all over Giorgio Chiellini.
A smart Diego ball in found Trezeguet's volley wide and there was a scare when Bologna had the ball in the back of the net from a Chiellini own goal, but it was disallowed as it was heading for Roberto Guana in an offside position and his presence forced the error.
Diego failed to finish off a promising counter-attack in the second half and Viviano's palms were stung by a Felipe Melo screamer.
Di Vaio caused panic when he went on the counter and was lining up the shot, but Legrottaglie came sliding in just as the Bologna veteran was pulling the trigger.
It was a warning, as Di Vaio would've equalised moments later were it not for Chiellini's decisive goalline clearance! The ball had also got past Gigi Buffon, but Chiellini was ready to prevent the goal.
Di Vaio again went close when he sprung the offside trap and went round Buffon, but Chiellini was ready for a goalline clearance at the near post!
The Rossoblu were pouring forward now and Buffon parried a Giacomo Tedesco snapshot into the path of Martins Adailton, who incredibly ballooned the follow-up over.
Buffon was at full stretch to fingertip Guana's daisy-cutter round the post, while Alessandro Del Piero made his comeback from injury.
Camoranesi had a great chance to put the points beyond doubt, but his header thumped the upright from Giovinco's free kick.
The pressure was there and deep into stoppages Adailton grabbed the deserved goal for Bologna. A free kick was taken quickly, Tedesco's cross found the Brazilian at the back post for a precise volley that Buffon could do nothing about. |
