The latest news indicates that Rafa Benitez could be leaving Liverpool immediately, thus allowing him to take over from Ciro Ferrara at Juventus. Football Italia report:
"Alberto Zaccheroni is set to replace Ciro Ferrara, but only if Rafa Benitez cannot free himself from Liverpool immediately.
There were already strong suggestions tonight’s Coppa Italia quarter-final would be Ferrara’s last game in charge, even before the 2-1 defeat.
The question now on the lips of Italian media is not if Ferrara will be replaced, but rather when and by whom.
If the club goes for a caretaker manager, then Alberto Zaccheroni is the hot favourite ahead of Claudio Gentile, despite a long meeting between the former Under-21 Coach and Juve directors yesterday.
It is rumoured that Gentile’s demands did not fit with the club and so they are moving towards Zaccheroni.
The newspapers also suggest that there is tension at the highest level, as President Jean-Claude Blanc would prefer Zaccheroni, while assistant director general Roberto Bettega is pushing for Gentile.
However, another theory is emerging ahead of Sunday night’s Serie A match with Lazio.
If the caretaker manager has not already been appointed, the Italian media suggest it is because Juventus hope Benitez will be available immediately.
The Spaniard is struggling badly at Liverpool this season, so by quitting Anfield he would release himself from that uncomfortable situation and take on a new high-profile job straight away.
If Benitez opts to wait until the end of the season, then Zaccheroni is likely to come in for the final four months."
I'm not happy with the idea of a failed Liverpool coach taking over at Juventus - It sounds like one bad decision after another. Rafa has no experience in Serie A and his tactics and signings at Liverpool have left a lot to be desired. What do you think - Is Rafa the man for Juventus ?
Following on from the above story, Football Italia now report:
Juventus President Jean-Claude Blanc hinted Ciro Ferrara will be fired tomorrow. “We’ll make a decision.”
The club has so far stood by its Coach, but following tonight’s Coppa Italia exit at the hands of Inter, the situation has deteriorated beyond repair.
“We are very disappointed, as we have failed at another of our objectives for the season,” said Blanc after the 2-1 defeat.
“Tomorrow we will make a decision and when we have made it, we will let you know.”
