Massimiliano Allegri believes Juventus have dropped too many points in the league but defends his comments ahead of the game against Dortmund.
“As we go into the game tomorrow, we go in knowing the importance of three points,” Allegri told journalists in his pre-match Press conference.
“I think at the moment we’ve lost sight of the goal – or one of the goals – of our season. It seems like the League is something which is already in the bank, already won. I don’t think the numbers say that. It’s true we have some points over Roma, but there are a lot of games to go until the end so we have to get back to thinking one game at a time.
“Tomorrow we face Atalanta and we need to try and get an important three points. Then we’ll prepare the important Champions League match, a Last 16 tie with Borussia.
“That said, I think we’ve dropped too many points on the road. On Sunday, at Cesena, we played a good game and I think you all saw what happened: we dropped two points.
“Credit to Cesena, they had a good game, they did what they could and should do, but we weren’t able to get a very important victory. Even then, absolutely nothing would have changed in regard to the dynamics of the League, because even if we’d won at Cesena, a nine-point lead doesn’t guarantee you the Scudetto.
“We have to keep our feet on the ground, continue to work, play one game at a time and get as many points as possible.
“Tomorrow against Atalanta we’ll field the players who do the best in training. Rotation is a word which doesn’t exist for me.
“Whoever takes to the pitch tomorrow will be in the best mental and physical condition to face Atalanta.”
Allegri turned his attention to his recent comments about the Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund.
“I said that because it’s not a one-off game,” Allegri continued.
“It’s a Last 16 tie, made up of two games and lasting 180 minutes. They key thing is not to concede a goal at home.
“If I could choose then I’d choose to win, but if we don’t win it’s better to get a 0-0 than 1-1. That was my answer, and that’s my answer today.
“There are two games, that must be handled in a balanced way, because our goal is to go through.
“If we draw 0-0 at home, and get a 1-1 over there then we’ve achieved that. I’ll say again, if you don’t concede at home you’ve taken one step forward.”
He always sounds so cautious. It’d be nice to hear him fired up every now and then. BVB is the biggest game for our club in years imo and he should be getting himself and the players fired up. Of course he could be doing that behind closed doors but there’s a time for his calma attitude and there are other times when you need to be screaming like conte
Nvm just watched the interview…he definitely wasn’t calm
“…if you don’t concede at home you’ve taken one step forward.”
Are they seriously going to go for a 0-0 at home?
Every time they make excuses before a game they play awfully.
Well news flash: if you score 5 at home, you also take one step forward.
Not conceding one at home IS important but shouldn’t mean you play 100% defensive, I hope they will play with the right balance.
1-0 would be a perfect score
I just don’t think Dortmund will / would think the same way before the match in Germany.. I mean, if it were finished 0-0 and Allegri were defending it with the same argument, I wouldn’t mind. But 1 week before the match? Come on..
I don’t like it either, it just shows Juve will play nervously yet again in the CL, but I understand what Allegri is aiming at, a 0-0 at home wouldn’t be bad and it would be better than 1-1, but nobody actually wants a 0-0. It’s saying everything is okay before the result is there, he’s hoping for a win but expecting a draw
