Former Juventus defender Alessandro Birindelli believes Rodrigo Bentancur is “doing something extraordinary this season.”
The former Bianconeri full-back spoke to Radio Sportiva about the postponement of the season as well as Bentancur’s growth under coach Maurizio Sarri.
“It is a historic moment of difficulty, not only nationally but also worldwide” Birindelli said of the Coronavirus pandemic.
“It takes patience because we know very well that it will not be easy. We must all huddle together and fight without losing heart.
“Honestly, at the moment I am struggling to think about football or sport in general. It is necessary to give priority to other things. We must meet as Juventus did, I am talking about other clubs, TV and sponsors “.
“I believe that there will be a downsizing, at least for the first two years. Everyone needs to make an effort to relate to this historical period. We will have to start again with courage but without forgetting the tragedy.
“Chiellini? I have a beautiful relationship with him, I know his strength of character. He is an intelligent guy, I believe that Juventus will not miss the opportunity to let him become a manager.
Attention turned to the Juventus midfield and the prospect of Miralem Pjanic leaving the club in the summer.
“Rodrigo Bentancur is doing something extraordinary this season, he has grown not only technically but also in terms of personality and self-esteem.
“Pjanic, in the last few weeks before the season stopped, was certainly not 100%. I don’t know if its appropriate to think of a transfer but Juventus surely have a substitute in the team.
“Lazio? There is always someone going off the rails, this is not the time for controversy. The competent bodies are trying to do everything possible.”
