The Italian journalist, Francesco Repice, admits Juve has done well in this summer transfer window, but he thinks they shouldn’t have sold Cristian Romero and Merih Demiral.
Both defenders moved from the club to Atalanta, with the former now playing for Tottenham in England.
They were good players when they were at Juve, but the Bianconeri had a Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini pairing that was hard for anyone to break.
This made both defenders leave, and they are thriving away from the club.
Juve has lost Chiellini and Matthijs de Ligt in this transfer window. They had secured the signature of Federico Gatti in January, and they added Gleison Bremer to the group days ago.
These defenders should replace the other two, but Repice says Juve should have kept Demiral and Romero.
Tuttojuve quotes him saying: “They lost important players, that’s true, Demiral and Romero were strong and would have come in handy now in defence. I don’t know who is stronger among Bremer and Demiral. Those two were sold too lightly.”
Juve FC Says
Demiral and Romero were very good defenders, but there was no space for them on our team, and they had to go.
Both of them are doing well at their current clubs, and we should be happy about the money we got from selling them.
Hopefully, our current options will help us win trophies when this campaign ends.
Long time follower but please keep the squad members on your site up to date. You’re a very good source of news but you could add the aspect of being a Juve historian.
How do you keep these guys. They all want to play. Chiellini and bonucci were not ready to move over. And then you also had deligt. I bet you even now bonucci still will want more playing time. At least chiellini was still good.
Anyway, impossible. These guys want to play and lose patience always being loaned out. Plus demiral is too reckless. Wasnt that great. Romero deserved more chance. Juve mis-timed chiellini and bonucci’s retirement plans and/or decline. It is what it is. I dont see what the big deal is. They are going through a a rebuild/transition period. You cant win the scudetto every year. Even Bayern and PSG miss out on their respective titles once and a while.
Bremer and Demiral, how can you even compare these two? One is the best Serie A defender, while the other had a hard time to get into the starting 11 in Atalanta. Romero had some glimpse of becoming a great defender, but he’s no where near the heights Chiellini and Bonucci are at. They might shine in Atalanta, but are below Juve level. All good, we were right to sell them
Bremer is waaaaaaay above Demiral. c`mon! Demiral was first team choice everywhere he went right, right? errrm no. As for Romero, if he doesn`t want to come back, he doesn`t want to come back.
You are right he doesn’t want to come back
