Juventus have announced their Champions League squad for the new campaign, but Stephan Lichtsteiner has been left out of the list.
The obvious suggestion for such an omission would be due to the rumours that the Swiss full-back was pushing for a move during the transfer window. Certain unreputable Italian papers suggested that Lichty was keen on a switch to Inter; a move that beggar’s belief given the players stature within the squad and his unwavering commitment to the team over the last five-years.
The squad does include new signings Dani Alves and Juan Cuadrado, both of whom can play on the right in Juve’s 3-5-2. Granted, Hernanes has been included…..perhaps simply due to the lack of central midfielders we’ll have later in the year when both Kwadwo Asamoah and Mario Lemina will be departing for the AFCON.
I’m still trying to make sense of it….perhaps the situation will be clarified in time…..for now, it’s a strange move by the club, and a hugely disappointing one.
Juventus UEFA list: Buffon, Chiellini, Benatia, Pjanic, Khedira, Cuadrado, Marchisio, Higuain, Hernanes, Alex Sandro, Barzagli, Mandzukic, Lemina, Bonucci, Pjaca, Dybala, Asamoah, Dani Alves, Rugani, Neto, Sturaro, Audero (B List), Evra
Great news. He often just runs like Forrest.
Oh oh, why is Lich off the squad? 🙁 Maybe that´s why Cuadrado was always going to come back, maybe management were bracing themselves in case Lich left.
Managmenet would have needed a backup for wingback, and if no other choice why not someone who Juve has been teaching the postition for all of last year? Hence Cuadrado in.
You are basing all this on an assumption that might be correct and might be wrong.
Might want to hold off from such conclusions then about the team you like and its players. They often communicate, its all over social media
I love each and eveyone of our players, but there are things hidden from the public which are kept secret. Juve is a professional club. Say worst case scenario a players relationship with the club hits a wall, they arent gonna go out and open their mouths to the whole world
Obviously something is up. Idk what happened between the club and Lich, but its Juve over any player all day everyday.
If he feels threatened over a little competition after JUST two games, then oh well. if its regarding his contract renewal, he has to understand that the club will not pay him more than what he can provide for the club. The greatest legend signed a blank contract ffs. Lastly if by chance this is due to him wanting a move to i***r, then he could fuck well off. What kind of shit is that. I dint have to into detail as to why ill lose all my respect for him IF that is the caSE
agree 100%
I completely disagree with you mate. I think Stephen is a stand up guy, great character. Now the fact that he wants to play makes me respect him even more. Even if he’d leave for Inter I’d still respect the guy. Our management has made some bizzare decisions in the past by keeping players in the dark. What they did with del piero is disgraceful honestly. I get no player is bigger than the club but there are certain players that bleed the shirt and then there is mercenaries. Lich has played his heart out since the beginning, clearly Alves will carve out most of his minutes. Lets not act like every other club and simply dispose players like they’re utter garbage. #FINOALLAFINE has a deep meaning that doesn’t make an exception with management.
” I want those bloody directors to bleed black and white as well”
Look at what theyve done this recent teansfer market and look at them at everyone of our games in the stands…
The only way ill lose my respect for Lich is if he goes to the scum.
Idk what happened, but its only been two matches. He needs to be patient. I still see him as an important factor to our team. If he wants minutes, he has to WORK for it, its not just granted.
Fino alla fine? Well work til the end as well
Come on, you know he’s been kept in the dark about everything. You dont go from starting in a champions league final to not even being included in group stages.
Who was his competition for the starting Rb/ Rwb spot?
I dont k ow what you mean by hes been kept in the dark, but hes not just gonna be given a starting spot. He has to earn it.
saw this comment at another forum. this may be the base reason, the guy says it came down to Lich or cuadrado and Allegri made his choice.
“We are really struggling with the club grown quota. I think we have 0 club grown players in the first team now since Marchisio is injured. (not considering Audero as first team realistically). So we could effectively only register 21 players + Marchisio and Audero.” (arijitdarren)
Sad news, no defensive option down the right. Still trust Allegri to know what he is doing!
Barzagli
In case of emergency yeah, he didnt do bad a bit more to the right. Still, he is no RB.
“I believe in facts rather than words. I live and breathe every game and every training session for the jersey that I wear and for the success of my team.
“That was never different and will never change! In this sense…FinoAllaFine!”
~ Stephan Lichtsteiner
Is it true that you can remake this list in January, after the transfer market is closed…? Maybe they took more midfielders this time around, just in case, knowing they’ll be enough to win the group…? Hoping by January Marchisio comes back and they can take Lichty then, when it gets harder…..?
I think you can make a few changes but I’m not sure of that..
Crossing my fingers I’m right! I really really really hope it’s not some sort of punishment as a consequence of their rumored fight….. which I don’t want to believe even happened in the first place……
Sounds unlikely to me, but who knows besides the people inside Juve..
…. and we all know Allegri will be diplomatic and vague about the whole thing when asked, too….
Edit: If it did happen, I mean.. if it didn’t I’m totally expecting him to praise Stephan for 15 mins at his next press conference.
If it is a disciplinary thing, I think they would say so publicly. If not, its only correct to stay vague about and solve it internally imo
I think if it’s disciplinary they need to deal with it themselves.. if it’s a tactical reason, they should explain it, because it would be a reason that makes sense..
I really don’t expect them to say “Lichtsteiner forced a move to Inter and the discussion got heated between Paratici and his agent, so as a punishment we’ve forced him to stay with us but have kept him out of the CL list”.
Well I dont mean they should throw it out like that, I meant disciplinary like how they did it with Vidal and Caceres, when they did stupid shit and got punished for it.
Not for transfer shenanigans ofc!
I think Vidal and Cáceres’ cases were made public precisely because they happened veeery publicly, and it wasn’t something they could deal with internally. I’m sure there have been other disciplinary measures taken that we haven’t even heard of ’cause they managed to keep it hush-hush.
In this case, in spite of many sources reporting it, there’s no way to know for suuuure… so, if it is indeed what happened, they’ll be able to be vague about it and keep it within those involved.
