Juventus have agreed a €30m deal for Valencia midfielder Andre Gomes.
With Claudio Marchisio ruled out for six months with a cruciate ligament injury, the Bianconeri are reportedly on the lookout for a versatile midfielder and they may have already found their man.
Today’s Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Juventus have an agreement for Andre Gomes who is the considered to be flexible enough to meet Allegri’s needs for next summer. The versatile Portuguese international can sit in front of the defence or can play a more advanced role, including the trequartista position.
Juventus have been tracking Gomes for some time, but the injury to Marchisio has forced Beppe Marotta to act sooner than originally planned.
Gomes will join Juventus in a deal worth €25m to €30m but there’s no mention of his salary. He joined Valencia last summer in a €15m deal from Benfica having spent a season on loan there previously.
A fast move by Marotta, which is commendable! Strike before others start a possible bidding war, this move shows Gomes is a high priority for the board.
I admit I am not really familiar with the player though
I am not to familiar with Gomes either, but I like what I have seen, and have heard from people who follow Valencia that he is their best player by far. At 22, he seems like a perfect solution. I fear Marchisio is done as a box-to-box player, so we need someone else, given as the alternatives to Pogba and Khedira frankly aren’t good enough. I would love Leicesters Kanté as Marchisios heir, he has such quick feet, but every top club surely wants him now, so it will be complicated and expensive. Diawara looks so promising, but it may be too early for him. Anyone seen Mandragonara? He is a regista, but now plays centre back, we need both…
I liked Marchisio as a regista, Pirlo-esque role. I prefer him in front of the defense rather than an attacking role. On Gomes, I think the same, he looks good, but besides that YouTube video I havent seen anything from him.
I fear Kante will move to one of the PL giants this summer, rather than a move to Juve or Serie A.
Diawara and Mandragora are both too young to be considered at this point I think. Not my opinion, but most likely juve’s views.
I would be happy with the addition of Gomes and a CAM for the midfield. Hernanes and perhaps Pereyra can leave
I don’t know much about Gomes, but i like the idea of us moving quickly before other teams. We did that with Khedira, Pogba, Pirlo, Coman, Dybala – Look how those worked out.
It sounds like he can play in more than one role which will really help us out. 30m for a 22 year old midfielder that can play anywhere in the middle is not bad business at all. Lets jhust hope it goes through now and it’s not just paper talk.
Looks like he has a good long pass in him, after watching that YouTube video. Working in defense, scoring, long passes, this could be a pretty sweet transfer.
Isnt he going to united?
apparently not – there’s a lot of people in ITaly reporting that we have ongoing negotiations for him
Excellent driblling skills, good crossing skills, average shooting skills, somewhat fast. I wouldn’t pay more than 20 million him honestly. But he is an upgrade over Sturaro, Lemina, Asamoah, Perreyra, Hernanes. I am not overly joyed about this but in my opinion as long as Juve are marginally improving the team than I am happy. I have no problem in getting a player than selling someone we have that is sub par the incoming. However, my list of transfers is Bernardo Silva, Renato Sanches and possibly Vrsljako. I dont think this is overly ambitious honestly I cant see madrid selling danilo no way. We need to get rid of these fringe players and start promoting from the academy as well. I cannot remember the last homegrown juve player….. Marchisio? he is 30 now..
I have some hopes to see players from this season’s Primavera advance to the senior ranks.. Not as fast as next season, but still.. There are some very talented players there. Clemenza, Pozzebon, Di Massimo, Favili, Audero, Vadala, Kean…
Juve indeed isnt really the kind of team that uses homegrown talent much. Yet we should, Serie A needs to pay more attention to the youth sector and youth development in these times of financial worries. Experience is always a good thing, but Serie A tends to rely too much on it.
I think Clemenza is best out the bunch but he just tore his ACL -_____-. Dont forget we have Andres Tello and Mattia Vitalle on loan in serie B. Both players have played over 20 games which is excellent!!! Than we have Mame Thiam in belgium that is killing it. You forgot Romagna, he is arguably the best out of the bunch, and given his CB role it would make perfect sense to promote now given all the injuries.
I havent forgotten them, just didnt bother writing them all down! 😛 I really al convinced some of them will make it to the first team..
Rugani has finally got some game time and is doing well, so Chiellinis heir should be worked into the team just like Rugani. Romagna is probably the best bet indeed!
Geez that is a good tape. I like a lot that he basically seems ambidextrous. However, can he play as deep-lying playmer? In the video he seems to play more box-to-box and he is very mobile. Let’s not forget that whoever joins will have to replace Marchisio right away for a month or so, we can’t afford to have a player that needs to learn a new position (and also possibly allow Marchisio to return to b2b in the future because I think he can give more there). So I’d say that the early impression is that Gomes looks an exciting player, worthy of the price tag, maybe I’ll watch a game or two of Valencia to see if can play in front of the defence.
