Juventus will make a move for Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani in the summer.
The French champions were eliminated from the Champions League on Tuesday and the management are reportedly ready to begin a new cycle at the club, beginning with offloading of several players.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be a free agent, come the summer, and his future will apparently dictate whether or not Cavani remains at the club.
According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, Juventus are considering a hefty bid in the region of €40 million for the Uruguayan striker and a four-year contract worth in the region of €6.5m per year.
The Italian newspaper suggests Bianconeri coach Max Allegri is interested in bringing Cavani to Turin to form a duo with Paulo Dybala.
Cavani’s future has been the subject of much speculation but his agent has confirmed the player is happy for now in Paris but, wishes to become the focal point of the attack, should Ibrahimovic depart.

40 mill Euro for Cavani I hope will not happen. He is too old for that, and also demands high wages. Even though I am not happy with that buy-back clause Real have for Morata, I would rather spend another 15-20 mill Euro to get rid of the clause. Morata is younger and has a sky high potential. IF Morata leaves, someone new must arrive. I think Cavani is better than Mandzukic and likes the partnership of Dybala-Cavani, but what if Berardi comes in? I think Dybala is too good to be “hidden” on the left in a 4-3-3 system (with Berardi on the right). And what about Zaza? He is not Juve class in many ways. Always feel like a security risk to have him on, getting more cards than goals.
Indeed I am of the same opinion, Steinar. Although I suspect the figure to make Morata completely our player will be closer to 25m, given the interest from other clubs. It is a very strange situation all round. Given the unknown weight of the player’s will.
Not keen on grabbing Cavani, although he is a top drawer player. We can do better for 40m I suspect, focusing on younger, hungrier players.
Difficult to judge formations post-Berardi arrival, until we know more of the Morata situation!
Zaza I assume will be sold. And rightly so. He has not progressed, though has been given a fair few chances. His disciplinary record is atrocious.
My suspicion is that we will end up with Vazquez. Which is fine. Alongside Berardi, Tonelli (or Benatia), perhaps a CM and a RB between Vrsaljko, Widmer and other options.
Thanks for responding. The Morata situation is crazy, surely Real can not sell him to a third club against his will…? But if we must buy him “again” if he wants to stay, one has to say Marotta for once has done a strange deal.
Totally agree that I would spend 40m differently. But I dont see Juve using that kind of money on Cavani, I would expect at most 30m for him if Juve will do that deal, then it is another story.
I doubt Vazquez, given his lack of speed and tempo, but also because Palermos mad man would demand quite a fee for him. If Isco is a possibility, as it looks like Zidane doesn’t like him, I would much rather have him.
Tonelli I like, I also think Benatia could be alright (even tough I am a little concerned that Bayern haven’t used him more with all their injuries).
As CM I would like Bolognas Diawara. Think he could be a great successor to Marchisio, really like what I have seen from the youngster.
We also need a successor to Lichtsteiner, I am not totally convinced by either Vrsaljko og Widmer, but have heard their names several times been mentioned. Maybe De Sciglio could blossom under Allegri again…?
My pleasure, its great to see you posting, mate.
Vazquez has speed of thought and wonderful distribution talent. It will be tricky for Zamparini to get mega bucks if/when Palermo go down. Speaking of which…I will perhaps be in Sardinia in September, Cagilari look likely to go up, and I can but hope that Juve visit whilst I am there! Regardless I will attend one of their home games. Why not eh!
Also purchased a ticket for the Juve game here in July against Melbourne Victory. AU$170, hardly any tickets left when I got round to buying Would have better to have seen the Spurs match, but, I concluded that both sides will be avoiding injury, hardly playing seriously and jogging more than racing. So…Melbourne Victory will be gung ho and perhaps force Juve to at least show some bite.
There is also Mandrogara or Mandrake! Who has continued to blossom at Pescara and could well find himself in our ranks.
Haven’t seen much of Diawara, though have read of our interest.
Isco, Gundogan and Mkhitaryan seem too expensive and likely to draw more monied clubs as moths to their flames. Gomes seems a possibility though as I watch very little of la liga, I have no idea of his promise.
De Sciglio seems more of a risk. Regardless the RB reserve role will be filled, another CB will be added, other than which, we must wait mainly on Morata and Pogba, to see where else we are forced to strengthen, other than which, any top drawer talent which arrives will be a bonus.
As long as continue to strengthen, I am content. And have full faith in Beppe and Fabio.
Spending 40 million on a 29 year old Cavani would be madness in my opinion and I think Beppe is too smart to make such a move. The Moratta situation is very interesting and I dont think anyone knows what exactly Madrid will do but Benzema and Ronaldo aren’t getting any younger. I can see Zaza leaving and Ganz taking his place. To be honest I think Zaza is gamble that we’ve lost on. Given the availability of money I’d make my top targets: Bernardo Silva and Renato Sanches. We dont need to spend crazy money on aging strikers. There is also our youth academy and Andres Tello and Matia Vitalle who’ve been equally as impressive in my opinion. IF i had to chose between Bernardo Silva or Berardi i’d honestly chose Silva. Given his lightning pace and technical ability I think he has more potential but will cost 25-30 million. Now if we sell fringe players (Isla, hernanes, Zaza) we can certainly get one of these targets.
Totally agree with you Jas – The striker situation is already sorted, provided we keep the forwards we have. Zaza was a gamble to an extent, but his goals may have won us the title, especially the one in Napoli. He seems to make more of an impact coming off the bench than actually starting games.
As for the Berardi siutation, i;m still inclined to take a gamble on him over anyone outside of Serie A. His stats are impressive and he’s grown and adapted within Serie A. We have to sell the fringe players, on that i agree as well – Too much money in dead weight, especially Isla and Hernanes. We can make a decent amount for those guys. My only concern is that we need depth for next season and the amount of injuries that we’ve had is untrue.
I’d want to see us sign a CB (Tonelli), A RB, another MF or two, renew evra and Barzagli, perhaps a CF if one of the current crop leave….and a trequartista for Allegri – a present to say thank you !
I dont think we need to renew evra, that position has been overtaken by sandro so why not give one of the younger players I mention a chance there? Tello and Vitale have been really good on the left flank. We do however need a solid CB which we have plenty in the academy as well as on loan. Magnusson has been pretty good, so has Romagna for the young squad. This is the mentality that we need get away from. Focus on the weakest part of the XI and get classy players. We dont need 3-4 more above average players, what we need is class. You should take a look at a few of Bernardo Silva’s videos on youtube. At 21, he has already been capped 7 times by Portugal and is going to the E.C this summer. 5 goals and 3 assists for Monaco this season :). He is miles faster than Berardi, much quicker with the ball and on the ball. Domenico is a better deal ball specialist and he has a better shot but we dont need another striker we have plenty of those.
I agree that we need class. Proven class. Which is why I understand and agree with trying to find younger talent loan deals in the top flight or at a decent level in foreign pastures.
Given the change in financial clout, with the Premiership especially soon to hugely over-shadow Serie A, it will become harder to purchase proven class. And so we must look for players in that stage of showing consistent great form at a solid level, and carefully pick those whose potential can be further tapped. The youth sector can help of course, yet until players have proven themselves at a decent level, I believe we should leave them be. Better to develop through playing regularly than sit on the bench at Juve, and take up the space of a player of more proven experience and value.
We have the strongest primavera for many moons. Unlucky to lose by a single goal in the coppa italia final, won the viareggio tournament and sitting pretty top of the league. There are some very promising talents to consider, but for the future, not present. Macek, Kastanos, Lirola, Audero, Favilli, Clemenza, Pozzebon, Di Massimo, Vadala and Romagna seem the pick of the bunch. And then there is Kean, a monstrous talent who after a few showings for the U19 is set to sign his first professional contract with the club under the condition (courtesy of Raiola) that he is found a loan club in foreign leagues next season. Bioty is 16 years old. 20 goals from 24 games is immense.
They are not ready to move into a team challenging for the top honours at senior level.
Of our other youngsters out on loan, Thiam, Buoy and Appelt have found good form this season, yet it is the player you mentioned, Vitale, who I feel has the only chance to find space in our squad and it may come down to him or Mandragora.
The likelihood is that none will be part of the squad next season, and all will be found teams operating at a decent level.
Yes yes! Players can learn much from training with the first team, yet I cannot say with any conviction that any of our interests in the youth or loan routine have yet proven themselves superior to what we presently have in the first team squad.
Of course, we cannot say for sure, for perhaps they would excel at senior level, at serie a level, yet to give them that chance will be at the expense of including a seasoned, proven professional.
It would be surprising, but welcome, to find Vitale in our squad next term. Yet you mentioned he played on the left when I have only seen him and read of him playing centrally, as a box to box midfielder.
Thanks for the discussion! Keep it coming, comrade.
Tello has been impressive in Cagliari’s fine campaign, yet not an assured first team starter. So for me, there is zero chance he will move to Juve anytime soon. Hopefully he will continue with the Sardinians in the top flight next season.
Vitale, whilst younger at 18, has played far more regularly for Lanciano. Their form has been fairly wretched, yet Vitale has long be talked off as having a solid chance at progressing to the senior Juve squad. I suspect he will travel with the big boys during the Summer ritiro, unless we can find him a loan in Serie A. I’d be surprised to find him in our squad for next season.
Isla will bring in $0 given his contract expires in the Summer. Hernanes may fetch 5-7m at best. Zaza, however, should recoup what we paid for him and probably a little more. Wouldn’t come as a major shock to see a premiership side plunder 20-25m for his signature.
Other than which most our incoming transfer funds will come from movement in the youth and loaned players realms. Thankfully the most hapless player I have ever seen in our colours, De Ceglie, will also leave on a free in the Summer.
I haven’t seen much of Silva, though know we met with Monaco to discuss him earlier this year. Despite the main targets mentioned in the press, as with last year, some of our targets will appear only when we sign them. Lemina…Sandro for example.
Pol Garcia and Magnusson have had fairly decent seasons in Serie B. Yet are too young to come in to add depth when we already have a youngster in Rugani.
We have no natural option to bring it at LB if Evra were to leave and I believe we very much require the frenchman’s renowned leadership and experience, both on and off the field.
In terms of Berardi v Silva? We are sending Cuardrado home and bringing in Domenico mainly as a wing forward, whereas I believe Silva plays through the middle closer to a trequarista/AM?
I doubt it is one or the other.
Absolutely agree with you on that note – Split that potential 40m in half, and start by getting Morata as a Juve player, once and for all.
I;m still inclined to give Zaza another season. He has potential and offers something none of the others do – a real rough-and-tumble type of striker who can score when needed. Agreed on the amount of bookings he picks up, but i’m hoping Allegri will work on that with him
I am a fan of Cavani and i want him to play at a club where he can be first striker and not move out of his position because of Ibrahimovic. I expect Ibra to move away from PSG though so there wouldn’t be a reason for Cavani to leave PSG then.
As for us, we have a good attack right now and we might add Berardi in the summer, no need for another striker.
I actually like him as a player…..i just feel he’s too expensive and his salary is too high. He does track all over the pitch….but then so does Mandzukic !
So Barca is eliminated from the Champions League now, great job by Atletico Madrid, I love the way they do stuff and for all i care they can win it all this season. My dream of Juve being the first to win 2 consecutive Champions League titles stays intact with Barca gone.
If Morata and/or Mandzukic leave then yes, I would like Cavani. He has experience and knows Serie A football well, when put back in his role as poacher he is world class in my eyes.
And adding some experience to an enormously young attack – Dybala, Morata, Berardi, Zaza and Mandzukic – cant hurt the team at all.
Plus, what other top level striker could we get for that sum? Pretty much none I believe
