Numerous reports in the Italian and English press suggest that Emre Can has decided to leave Liverpool and will join Juventus on a free transfer in the summer.
A transfer has been touted for months, however some reports today in both England and Italy have lent more weight to Can choosing Juventus in the summer.
The German international is a free agent in June and will be able to agree terms with a club in February and it looks increasingly likely that it’ll be Juventus that get the player.
Today’s Guardian newspaper report that Can has given his consent to Juventus having agreed a “five-year contract worth £85,000 a week and a sizeable signing on fee.”
A further report came courtesy of the highly reliable Romeo Agresti who spoke with RadioVS this evening and likened the deal more to Juve’s signing of Fernando Llorente than their proposed free signing of Alex Witsel.
.@romeoagresti taking to @RadioVSOfficial – Juve hope to secure Emre Can for June. There are more parallels with the Llorente deal than the Witsel one. #RadioVS pic.twitter.com/IKPtp9156a

Should of sold him last summer least would got sme change from the sale i dnt rate him and he wont be mist his no phil tino
Well, whilst I would agree that he is not presently anywhere near a world class midfielder, its pointless to compare a defensive midfielder, with a 100% offensive attacking mid. You might as well as he has nothing on Buffon between the sticks. It is also a little silly to suggest Can will not be missed. Keita looks interesting, a but rough, but probably a stronger option in many ways, but Klopp has openly said he would like Can to stay and he has been playing regularly in their starting XI…Unfortunately for Liverpool, despite their history and massive spending power, Juve are a more attractive option because of the elite level where they compete. Two CL finals in three years certainly helps as does domestic dominance and perhaps also an ever more curious scudetto. There is a renaissance slowly underway in Italy. I am sure he could earn more through signing a new deal at Anfield or at another PL club, but perhaps he wants silverware, he wants glory more than just the money. If so, he will be a welcome addition to the black and white ranks.
It seems to me a signing to replace Khedira. Whilst also bringing in a more naturally focused DM, which we have still not yet brought into the squad. The only one we have of close to top drawer talent there is Marchisio, who is yet to either find the playing time to move up the gears or he never will return to his previous heights after the injury. Pjanic can play there, when he has protection but that leaves us a little flimsy through the middle as he is a ball-player not ball winner.
Mandragora is a natural in the role, but he is young and elsewhere. Bentancur is more a box to box than great fit for a holding midfielder. Matuidi also a hybrid, happier moving around than sitting in front of the defence, with Big Sami too sloth. And as for poor sturaro, he is finished in our colours, his career ruined by better players staying fit and rendering opportunities few and far between. It will take him some time to regain his balance and focus and for the first time I can say that I openly wish to see him sold, for his own good.
Despite my reservations of Can, I do believe he has a solid technical level in all areas of his game, which with the right management, with the right players, could well blossom. There are zero Liverpool players behind the front lines who are highly thought of as established players at the top of their game. Maybe this is more due to Klopp’s tactics than the absence of technique, yet regardless, i cannot recall any defensive minded player of his side impressing me consistently over the last year or two.
Can is very highly thought of by too many experienced classy players and managers for me to assume anything other than this will prove a sound investment.
Tru but he aint evn good at tht thow mte he is a german forrest gump.. leon g he can defend he can run wth the ball creat chances likes to be involved can cnt takkle ofensivley he is not great atall he is overated we dont need him so we should got some decent money for him summer now he goes for free to me tht dnt mke no sence
I’d trust the likes of Klopp and Low a little more readily, comrade! If it turns out he is over-rated by the manager of the top international side on the planet and also your quite well respected current boss then so be it, yet I stick with them both.
As mentioned there are zero players behind the Liverpool front line who ever stick out as impressive. Not one…although the young fullback looks a decent prospect, in the final third!
Klopp is not a defensive minded coach. His hustle and run and charge and pressure routine works to provide exciting football, but not winning football anywhere near the top level. This is partly why the likes of Can and Coutninho and others in due course will depart. They seek yes yes, the gold, but also if they believe in their own ability, they seek the chance to test themselves at the highest level. Which is not going to happen when at Liverpool.
The absence of allure of competing at the top level goes some way to explaining why you pay 75m pounds for Van Dijk, who in Serie A, and probably germany, would be seen as an average defender,, nothing more…You have to pay to bridge the divide between where you are and will remain and player ambition, pave what is missing in the lucre…
Agreed in why players want to leave a club that pay pretty well GP, but I really wish we had left Can well alone. He’s not great is he, and we can ( and should ) look for better. Let Liverpool keep him, we need to stop getting players just because they are free. For every Pogba or Pirlo we seem to end up with a free turkey…. I’d rather management worked on improving Sturaro. I don’t see Can as being much better really.
Well mate, I am not as despondent of his potential or current level as yourself. I do not by any means consider him top drawer, but certainly gauge his value beyond that of Sturaro who has simply crumbled, he has been destroyed, played barely and in too many different roles, he is very much a lost soul.
Can is okay, at 23 he has potential. He is also of decent experience and I would prefer his energy in the squad to both Khedira and Sturaro, so on that score it is an improvement.
Not a world beater, else he would be signing for City, United, RM or Barca but well thought of in the game, a good age and an improvement on two CMs in the squad from what I have seen. Again I add that Klopp’s system is 100% geared towards making the offensive talents seem impressive, with the defensive players often stretched with very little if any assistance from the front 4.
I do not see much to lose on the move, mate….and its 42C here, time to cling onto the beast and plead to be deposited in the big drink, for an hour or two to simply float.
Top side that he is not the first choice comrad.he may play for germany but he aint the first name on the team sheet come on mate can is overatted he aint improved since days of brendon rodgers. Mater a fact i think he was better then thn he is now his played alot this season assist 3 .goals cnt even remember gives away needless fowls he runs and dnt no wer his going haif the time id rather hendo than can in the midfeild
The only people who seem to over rate him are Klopp and Low.
I will mention again that there are virtually no players at Liverpool highly regarded other than the attacking crowd. Milner, for his work rate and all round technique, but who else? Not one. I feel it is partly due to Klopp’s tactics. And we will not know how good Can is until he is playing in a more balanced team. Yet for now, he is clearly thought well of by Klopp, Low and others.
For free, he is worth signing, at his age, with his experience. At worst we can sell him after a year for a massive profit!
Clopp play him cos his germanand he has to get some thing out of him befor he pisses of on a free thts it he aint a key player for lfc stop taikn about clopp and low if low rated him high he be the first nme on the german squad team sheet he is not so stop wth that one please
I believe we have reached an impasse…I can understand your frustration. You would have preferred a fee for a first team player. Makes sense. Yet you say he is over-rated and a poor all round player, so he wouldn’t be worth much and yet he is a regular first team player for your side. Hence why I suggest your issue is more with Klopp. Who you seriously think is so unprofessional that he plays a poor player just because he is german? I highly doubt that.
As I have mentioned…I do not see Can as a world beater. He seems a potentially decent DM highly thought of by a fair few coaches and ex-pros. he has great experience for his age and would be a welcome replacement for the ruined Sturaro, even the ever more sloth Khedira, for the transfer fee of $0.
Worst case scenario is that we would sell him on for a large profit the Summer after…It seems a win-win situation for Juve.
He is overated can is not as good as u think i like can when he first cme when brendon was in charge i thort he would kik on and becom a top player but he has not improved from days of brendon rodgers look at phill who we bought for how much 8,5 mil ad a tallent and look how he kikt on from time of brendon we bought can for more and he hasnt kik on we couldnt evn get 20 mill for him in summer wht dus tht say for the talents of can ? Can nver sign cos if he did an keita cmes in and he thn sits on bench no big side would pay wht lfc would want for him if he was on say a 4 yer contract can advicer is clever. If juv rated can tht highley thy bought him in summer and ofred decent money not rubish money but thy new no other club is intrested so we waite till his free can no tht his advisers told him u go on free u get more wages an fat sign on fee too win win for forest can
Henderson is determined, and sporadically decent, but his eyes are too close together and he looks the result of inbreeding.
It will be interesting to see how you spend the Coutinho money. The problem you face is that players, who seek the top, see you as a stepping stone. You have no chance of fighting for domestic honours and its highly unlikely (though possible) for you to mount a serious assault on the CL. And so its mainly your old prestige and the money and lure of the PL. Hence overpaying hugely for Van Dyk and now you will need to try find another Coutinho, which is tricky. And as everyone knows you have the $ and no guaranteed CL football next year you will pay hugely over the odds.
We are in a better position. Yet no doubt, absent of a deep CL run, we might fall behind you on the money scale, but so be it. Allure of recent and ongoing success balances that out to a fair degree…
Wat u on about mte u smikn space dust go look at stats hendo creats more chances for team mates the the german forest gump u defend mte u no fan u suport a guy tht is overated and defend a guy tht dnt evn want to play for us fix up mte ynw
This is like conversing with a modern day artful dodger! Perhaps a northern version but your language is like that of another age…
Henderson is a very different kind of player. We may as well compare mane with can?
And I’ll repeat that I’m taking the same position as your manager…he picks him, he trains him, he plays him.
Potentially a usueful squad player for free, with Sami and Sturaro heading out.
Let me go again are you smokn space dust.? Hendo creates more chances than can dus he is a beter defencive player than can can is the german forest gump run run run run can run thts a movie init
I think clopp plays him cos his german
I wont loose no sleep him going im jus vex lfc didnt get rid in summer and got sme money for him
That is perfectly reasonable, mate. I would feel the same if one of our players were to leave and we were still playing him regularly in the first XI. It doesnt look or feel right in some way.
We play him so he dnt sit on bench pikn up wages until he pisses of if lfc could of got 30 mil for him in sumer thy would of sold him. Only team come in for him is juv and thy offerd shite money and we sed noo fact. Wht other team has shown intrest in can or mde offers no one. But same team who oferd shite money for him thy wernt willn too pay any more so thy waite till thy dnt hve too pay nothn again a average player at best not good enuf for lfc
It flatters him to be in the first team. He should be training by himself from now until his move.
he doesn’t pick his spot…Klopp does. So I assume its a criticism of the weakness of the alternatives in the Liverpool squad or the manager?
